Originally an early medieval petty kingdom of varying boundaries known as Glywysing. This area became a conflict between the Norman lords and Welsh princes after the Normans took over Glamorgan. It was inhabited by humankind for over 200,000 years. Evidence of Neanderthals has been discovered on the Gower Peninsula.
