Early Origins of the Hoban familyThe surname Hoban was first found in County Mayo (Irish: Maigh Eo) located on the West coast of the Republic of Ireland in the province of Connacht, where they held a family seat as one of the important tribes of the Clan Eoghain(Owen). Irish history was greatly influenced by the Norman invasion of 1172, and thereafter, the surnames of Irish Gaelic clanns and septs and many of the Norman families became almost indistinguishable. This family name was found later in Kilkenny where they represented an important contribution from the 17th century onwards.
