Etymology of Londsdale

What does the name Londsdale mean?

The name Londsdale first arose amongst the Anglo-Saxon tribes of Britain. It is derived from their having lived in Lonsdale, which was in the county of Lancashire. The original bearers lived in the valley of the Lon, a river that flowed from Westmorland (now part of Cumbria) into Lancashire.
