| Morro History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms Etymology of MorroWhat does the name Morro mean? The Morro surname is of an ancient lineage from Mallorca, which had its ancestral home in the town of Selva. In both Spain and Portugal the word "morro" roughly translates a "hill." Early Origins of the Morro familyThe surname Morro was first found in Mallorca (Majorca), where Don Pedro Morro was a native. He was Deputy for the same town, swore sacrament and homage to King Alonso III of Aragon in 1285, "a time in which Don Bartolom" Morro took the same oath, by Inca and Don Romeo Morro, as Deputy for Alcudia. Don Antonio Morro was a Doctor in both Laws and jury of the city and kingdom of Mallorca. Don Bonifacio Morro, also a Doctor in both Laws, was a member of the great and general Council of Mallorca, royal procurator in 1434 and sworn by the class of citizens in 1440, 1453 and 1459. In 1453 he went to the Court to inform the King of the concerns of the island of Mallorca, on the occasion of the uprising of the "forensics" against the "citizens" and in 1462 he raised people, who he sent to Menorca to appease the revolts of that island. Morro Castle is the name of fortresses found in: Havana Bay, Cuba; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Santiago, Cuba. There are numerous municipalities that have the prefix "Morro" in Brazil today.
