Cavan is the 19th largest of the 32 counties. Based on the historic Gaelic territory of East Breffny “Bréifne”, Cavan is also known as Breffni County. Located in the province of Ulster, Cavan is a border region bordered by Leitrim, Fermanagh, Monaghan, Meath, and Longford, as well as Westmeath. Several remains of motte and bailie fortifications from the Norman influence around the late 12th century.
