Etymology of Shorthose

What does the name Shorthose mean?

Shorthose is an ancient name dating from the times of the Anglo-Saxon tribes of Britain. It was a name for a person who was a person who was given the nickname of Short-hose, due to the fact that this individual wore half hose which reached the top of the knee, rather than covering the whole leg. This nickname was given to Sir Thomas Woodcock, Lord Mayor of London in 1405 for this very reason.
