Early Origins of the Tacay family

The surname Tacay was first found in Domesday Book of 1086 where the early Latin forms of the name, "Trasemundus and Trasmundus [were] found in Wiltshire and Dorset. 1 As a surname, I can only discover instances in Norfolk and the North of England. It has existed four centuries at least in York. " 2

The source Corpus Christi Guild (Surtees Society) of York has the following early entries: John Theysman, 1487; Briand Tossemund, 1523; Bryan Tesymon, 1537; Jac. Tesymond, 1545; and Richard Thesymon, 1546. 2

In Norfolk, Thomas Tesraond, was Sheriff of Norwich, 1559 and John Tesmond was Mayor of Norwich, 1601. 3

Migration of the Tacay family

Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: the name represented in many forms and recorded from the mid 17th century in the great migration from Europe. Peter Tissiman went to Ohio in 1833 and another Peter Tissiman is known to have applied for naturalization papers in Allegheny Co. Pennsylvania, between the years of 1789 and 1840.
